THE WAVE: Top 6 Songs of the Week

1. Needed Me by Rihanna

Although I have not listened to the entire “ANTI” album, I know that it is probably excellent. This song is smooth and the bass in it is amazing, and perfect for people like me who literally head bang to music. Also, the music video is amazing.

2. Father Stretch my Hands Part 1 by Kanye West

Every creative content that Kanye puts out is amazing (besides Yeezy season three), so I knew that as soon as TLOP dropped I was going to be obsessed with it. I don’t care what anyone else says, Kanye is constantly evolving as an artist and never fails to bring new vibes to his music. Father Stretch my Hands Part 1, is the first song I fell in love with from the album. The execution of the song and the combination of sounds makes it sound like magic, and once again it's a head banger so.

3. Untitled 02 by Kendrick Lamar

Once again ANOTHER artists who I knew would not fail me, Kendrick does not fail ever. He dropped this album by surprise, and just like ANTI, I didn’t listen to the whole thing I just stumbled across one good song and that’s all I needed. Kendrick Lamar’s sound and tone is so dominant in his music, it’s almost raspy and it’s filled with so many soulful juices and just yes. This song is definite must for everyone, even yo momma and yo momma’s momma.

4. Nakamarra by Hiatus Kaiyote

I don’t remember how I came across thing song, actually I just remembered never mind. I came across a cover of it on youtube, and immediately fell in love with. It was like a mix between India Arie and Floetry and it put me in a good mood; an automatic indicator that a song was crafted beautifully. Honestly, I judge the quality of music based on how it makes me feel, and this song makes me want to go 100% vegan and wear my hair in an afro and fall in love and move to maui. Listen to it while you're cleaning, or while your journaling or on long car rides.

5. Youth by Troye Sivan

Before Troye Sivan started making music and came out with his first album, I watched him on YouTube for years. I always loved his personality, so naturally, I supported his music aspirations and listened to his album on repeat. HOWEVER, I did not expect for it to be so good. Youth is just one song, but the entire album is really great. It makes you feel young, and it’s just good music for the soul.

6. Lost by Frank Ocean

Frank Ocean is MIA which is really unfortunate because I don’t know how many more times I can listen to Channel Orange on repeat. But anyway, Lost is a classic and somehow finds a balance between techno sounds yet an R&B vibe. It’s one of those songs that you can always depend on, unlike Panda or any other temporary song. Frank ocean has a way of telling a story through his music, which is also really appealing and is another reason why this song really never gets old.
