ALBUM REVIEW 4.0: "Good for You" by Aminé
Ironically, I'm listening to Frank Ocean while writing this, but that's because Frank just helps me think not because Aminé's album is trash. Actually, it's the opposite of trash, it's gold. Gold is the opposite of trash right? No? Anyway, into the album.
I get MAJOR Andre 3000 vibes. The music is kind of quirky and a little jingly-ish, but good. I have to be honest, I wasn't expecting what I heard. I loved Caroline and Red Mercedes and both of those songs have a strong bass and are head-bangers, and most of the songs on Good for You aren't like that at all. These songs are sweet and filled with stories, because he's literally storytelling. For example on the track Sundays, where he reminisces on Sundays as a child, which as he says were filled with pancakes, church and Stanley Kubrick.
The album also lacks anything super raunchy or explicit, unlike the two songs I mentioned earlier, which are both raunchy and explicit. The album is sweet: he talks about his idea of a perfect girl in Spice Girl or negative impacts of money on Money. This album is relatable and makes you feel like you know Aminé: the Ethiopian, yellow loving kid from Oregon.
However, some of the songs are too much. Like he tried to maybe get too creative on sounds, and it just ended up sounding like an annoying commercial jingle that hurts your ears. You might experience the same sensation with some of Tyler, the creator's songs or Lana del Rey. It's just too. much. sound. But then again, some people link annoying commercial jingles? idk.
Also, the album doesn't feature ANY features!!! I think that's really dope because he could grab my intention with his song and vibe alone, he didn't need Kendrick or SZA (even though a collab between SZA and Aminé omg wow) to keep me enticed.
Overall, the album is dope it's definitely something I'll be listening to for a while. It's good cleaning around the house or going for a drive music.
